Netflix releases trailer & BTS video for Filipino comic-based series ‘Trese'

Netflix posted the official trailer for ‘Trese,’ an animated series based on a Filipino horror-fantasy graphic novel, last May 21 and the behind-the-scenes teaser on June 3 at their official social media accounts.

Set in Metro Manila, the series follows the story of detective Alexandra Trese as she deals with the crimes done by supernatural beings such as kapre, aswang, tiyanak, etc. The trailer also revealed that the show will premiere on June 11.

The caption of the two-minute trailer says, “Simulan na natin. Andito na ang pinakahihintay na patikim sa TRESE, unang silip sa kabilang mundo. Sa ika-11 ng Hunyo, mabubunyag ang nakatago.”

The Filipino dub of the series features Liza Soberano as the voice for its main character. Meanwhile, Shay Mitchell would voice Alexandra in its original English voice. In Netflix’s behind-the-scenes footage, both actresses show how they relate to their character.

“We’re [Alexandra and Liza] both very courageous when it comes to the people that we love… She has this responsibility and duty towards the people of Manila and she really takes that to heart,” Liza said in the BTS video.

“I get to play such a strong female in this, with such an incredible cast... We’re both very determined women and I think that whenever she puts her mind to something, she gets it done,” Shay also said.

Liza also shared her excitement on how the series can show the Philippine mythology to the world. “We have our own characters here in the Philippines, our own superstitious beliefs, and I just want to share that with the world,” she said.

“Still can’t believe I get to be part of this. It’s an honor to be the voice of Alexandra Trese and I can’t wait for June 11! There’s still so much more you haven’t seen yet,” Liza said when she posted the trailer on her Instagram account.

The Filipino dub cast also includes Simon dela Cruz, Apollo Abraham, Christopher Carlo Caling, Eugene Adalia, Cheska Aguiluz, and others. English voice actors include Griffin Puatu, Matt Yang King, Jon Jon Briones, Steve Blum, Carlos Alazraqui, etc.

‘Trese’ is directed by Jay Olivia while the multi-awarded original comic was written by Budjette Tan and illustrated by Kajo Baldisimo.
