A policeman was shot dead by unknown assailants while driving his vehicle in Tarlac on Tuesday, June 8.
The victim was identified as PSSgt. Michael Maun, an officer assigned at PNP Aviation Group based in Clark Pampanga and a resident of Barangay Cristo Rey, Capas, Tarlac. Maun received several gunshot wounds.
Initial reports said Maun was headed home in his Toyota Altis when another black Toyota Altis suddenly overtook him.
Maun was then shot several times by two unidentified assailants before fleeing in their vehicle.
The victim was brought to the Ospital Ng Capas for medical treatment but was declared dead on arrival.
A CCTV camera captured the incident and an immediate follow-up operation was conducted for possible identification and arrest of suspects.
Meanwhile, the vehicle used by the assailants was found abandoned at Sitio Baloy, Barangay Arangonen, Capas.
The investigation is still ongoing.
"We will exert all our efforts and look into the bottom of this. We continue to solicit the support of the general public in order to maintain peace and order, safety and security of our communities,” Police Regional Office 3 Regional Director Gen. Valeriano De Leon said.
